Finca Project is our flagship project that was started in 2005 in southern Costa Rica. Finca Project has two main objectives: 1) community-based reforestation; and 2) environmental education. For more information about Finca Project, visit our website at www.fincaproject.org

Finca Project works with coffee cooperatives and other farmers' associations to promote reforestation and agroforestry development in the county of Coto Brus, Costa Rica. From 2005-2010, Finca Project's community nursery produced 20,000 native hardwood and fruit trees that were planted throughout the region on private farms, parks, and communal lands. Finca Project works with researchers and farmers to find a sustainable balance between agricultural land and forests that ensures ecosystem integrity and a source of income for local people.

Finca Project's second area of work is in environmental education. Starting in 2005, Finca Project has worked directly with local primary and secondary schools in Aguabuena, Costa Rica to help develop environmental curriculum. The focus of the curriculum is on place-based learning, bringing students out into the field to learn about the ecology of rainforests. Finca Project interns take a major lead in this area as they work directly with school teachers and students to develop these programs.
